Privacy Policy

Overview

This policy describes information handled in connection with SmartBudget, a budgeting and expense-tracking app provided by SmartDev. SmartBudget lets you manage budgets, record expenses, view reports, and import expenses from Gmail.

Information Used by SmartBudget

• Account and profile information: information associated with your account, such as your name and email address.
• Budget and expense information: budgets, purchase amounts, currencies, dates, merchants or descriptions, categories, and information used to calculate balances and reports.
• Gmail import information: your connected email address and email information used to identify expense alerts and extract transaction details, such as sender, date, merchant, amount, and currency. Import settings and results include sender filters and pending, imported, or rejected entries.
• Analytics information: the Android app includes Google Analytics for Firebase, which collects app usage events and device and app information to provide usage and engagement reports.
• Deletion record: an account ID and deletion timestamp retained to prevent old sessions from restoring deleted data.
• Support communications: your email address and any information you choose to include when contacting SmartDev.

How Information Is Used

SmartBudget uses account and financial information to provide its budgeting, expense tracking, category comparison, and savings and spending reports. Gmail import information is used to find transaction alerts and prepare expenses for review and addition to your budget. Information you send to support is used to respond to your request.

Gmail Access and Your Choices

The Gmail import feature connects to a Google account with your authorization. Review the permissions shown by Google before granting access. You can filter import results by sender and date, with a maximum import date range of 90 days, and review pending results before adding expenses. The 90-day import range is a search limit, not a data retention period.

You can disconnect Gmail from the import screen. You can also review or revoke SmartBudget’s Google account access through your Google account connections. Revoking access prevents future access through that authorization; it does not itself delete information already imported into SmartBudget.

Google User Data: Limited Use

SmartBudget’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Gmail data and data derived from it are used only to provide or improve the app’s visible user-facing features. They are not sold, used for advertising, or used to determine creditworthiness or lending eligibility. Transfers are limited to those permitted by that policy, and human access is restricted to its permitted circumstances, such as your affirmative agreement to access specific data, security needs, or legal requirements.

Storage, Security, and Service Providers

SmartBudget uses Google Firebase to store and manage app data, including account, expense, and Gmail import data. Firebase processes this information to provide the cloud services used by SmartBudget. For information about Firebase’s data handling, see Firebase Privacy and Security.

Expenses are also cached locally on your device for offline use, alongside Firebase cloud storage. This means a copy of your expense information is stored on the device where you use SmartBudget.

Protecting your account also depends on keeping your device and sign-in credentials secure. No method of electronic storage or transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Advertising, Analytics, and Other Sharing

SmartBudget does not currently display ads. The Android app includes Google Analytics for Firebase. This service collects app usage events and device and app information and processes them through Google to provide reports on app usage and engagement. App data is processed by Firebase to operate the app. Information may also be disclosed where required by applicable law. Google user data and information derived from it remain subject to the Limited Use restrictions described above. If advertising, analytics, or data-sharing practices change, this policy will be updated before those changes take effect, with consent requested where required.

Retention and Deletion

App data is retained as needed to provide your account, budgeting, expense tracking, and import features. To delete your account and data, open SmartBudget and go to Settings → Delete account and data, then follow the in-app prompts.

If deletion is interrupted, the app automatically opens a Finish deleting your account screen when reopened. Reopen the app and follow the prompts to finish deletion. An interrupted attempt should not be treated as completed deletion.

After deletion, a record containing your account ID and deletion timestamp is retained to prevent old sessions from restoring deleted data. This record remains after account data deletion for that protective purpose.

Disconnecting Gmail is separate from deleting app data: disconnecting does not itself remove previously imported expenses. You can also revoke Google access through your Google account connections.

Children’s Privacy

If you believe a child has provided personal information to SmartBudget that should be removed, contact SmartDev using the email below so we can review the request and assist with deletion.

Changes to This Policy

Updates will be posted on this page with a revised date. Changes involving additional Google data access or new uses of that data require appropriate updated disclosures and consent.
